| Posted : 01 Nov 2018 - 22:25 Post title : MotoGuzzi California | | Funny thing the other week, my Bird had broken down on the way to our recent flocking, my bike was at a country triumph dealer and I was staying at a friends digs, Royal Cafe at Walcha,NSW which is about 90kms from where the Bird was.
To pass the time I was researching other bikes and chatting to riders as they stopped for a break. I got a very favourable reply from a chap when I asked him about his California (Eldorado) parked out front so thought I would get on the net and check them out.
Got on to a Guzzi site and started reading a thread on these models when guess who else had been on there? Using the same lingo, same emoticons and sometimes dribble that we see on here?????
I think the Guzzi stacks up very well on paper, not as pretty as the Bird, but with air cooling ( oil cooler with fan), shaft drive, electronic throttle with cruise control , traction control and three maps available to choose from at the press of a button it looks good as a tourer.
Anyone else checked them out?
| Experience is something you get just after you needed it 1600,Foran Razorbacks, Meerkat bypass, Dyno tune, real headlight,plenty of chrome,switchblade pegs, Hagon Nitro shocks & Ikon progressive fork springs etc. Scorpion Western Low handlebars. PH adjustable fork caps.

Love the look of the new Eldorados , red is beautiful. My main concern is is parts availably in my part of world. The dealer network is very thin.. I hear the drive train is bullet proof, but some of the new electronics might be hard to get if they got toasted. They just announced a V85tt that looks pretty cool as well

I wounder who that was what happened to your bike I like the motor guzzi but when I test rode a couple and I'm only a short ass, my knees nearly touched the heads and sitting in traffic they got quite ( I own a honda cx 650e same motor/ head design and it doesn't get anywhere near as hot)warm and they didn't have as much get up and go as I thought they would.

| Posted : 02 Nov 2018 - 21:23 Post title : Re: MotoGuzzi California (Re: fab) | | Jamie it ended up being a faulty 3 pin plug for the TPS, unfortunately mis diagnosed by the dealer and then some sloppy workmanship on the throttle bodies. I will be carrying a code reader in future although no mil light came on this time. I got it back home after a quite an ordeal and got it running in a day and a half, they had it for six days, mainly waiting for a new TPS which they didn't need. I'm not going to say much more until I have spoken to the service manager who is OS at present.
Really have to thank Paffy/Brad & Toni and Tich for helping me out
Pissed off that I missed the Flocking and a chance to farewell Jimbo.

I have sat on an Eldorado at the Phillip island Classic and yes, knees are an issue but the fella I spoke to at the Royal was 6'6" and he said you just adapt.

Parts and service could also be an issue as mentioned. Although the parts supply here for our Birds isn't what you would call professional.

I had a chat yesterday to my local dealer's triumph mechanic and he has had a few wiring issues with Tbirds and another couple of models in the range. He said all the wiring pins that go into the five volt system plugs are crimped, not soldered, and that seems to be the issue. If you have the time he reckons to remove them and drop some solder in the join. That would be some job!!!

Warranty is a dirty word with Guzzi...if they can walk away from an issue they will. Otherwise an underrated bike.

Warranty seems to be a dirty word here for almost everything.

Well,since "they all do that",they can keep em,so as you guys know,I looked else wheres.But I must admit,other then that bucking,that Guzzi was a nice machine,as it had adequate power, and was very comfortable to ride.Anyways,carry on gentlemen!!! Dave!!!
